Hospital to Home Success Story
Kenneth W. Born and raised in Cleveland Ohio, Kenneth had dreams of serving his country and traveling the world so he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. This proud Veteran served as a supply clerk for 11 months in San Diego California. Due to a degenerative disc spinal disease, Kenneth’s military career was short lived and slowly over the years his health continued to deteriorate. At first he only needed limited assistance with a cane and was able to maintain employment but over time he gradually needed a walker. Kenneth moved South to get married to a lady from Atlanta but as his health go worse, his relationship ended. Without any other family in Georgia, Kenneth fell onto hard times.
Kenneth’s medical and financial needs became overwhelming and before he knew it he was homeless. After an extended period of homelessness and hospital visits, he was referred Kenneth to the United way and Homes of Light’s Hospital to Home Program. During his time with Homes of Light, Kenneth was able to receive much needed therapy for his back and was assisted with pain management. At this time he was able to reconnect with his family in Ohio and then was assisted with travel arrangements back to Ohio. He now lives with his sister who will assist him after his much needed spinal surgery coming up this winter. This die-heart Cleveland Brown fan and avid chess player is extremely thankful for everything that Homes of Life did to help him on his long road to recovery. He’s convinced that soon he will be able to walk again without any assistance
